Hot Take: Made to Order Jewelry

I for one am an enjoyer of instant gratification. Convenience is king in this day and age. We now have drones delivering packages into suburban backyards, and a supercomputer stealing our ideas as we feed it questions and demand it for answers. I can’t argue against these conveniences, as they have given us opportunities we may have never imagined. However, I do think it is important to acknowledge the impact that these conveniences have had on slow fashion.

The jewelry industry has always existed as a slow fashion industry - that is before Shein dupes and mystery metal jewelry entered the market. Slow fashion gives us jewelers the opportunity to deliver quality, handmade products without having to waste money on overstock. As you can imagine, having hundreds of grams of gold and silver at once can be quite expensive. And, jewelry obviously requires many sizes, chain lengths and stone settings, which makes carrying every variant of a product inaccessible for a lot of small makers, like myself.

The made to order business model and slow fashion industry go hand in hand, allowing small makers and independent creatives to develop their products based on demand.

I prefer the made to order business model for reasons above, but also for sustainability. It can be incredibly wasteful to create many versions of something that is not proven to sell. We see examples of this in thrift stores, where manufacturers donate an entire stock of one SKU due to its lack of performance. To sum things up, we live in a world where everything is available at our fingertips, and waste is created constantly.

So, hearing my hot take on all of this you’re probably wondering what this means regarding your order, huh?

Fulfillment typically takes 2-3 Weeks

During those 2-3 weeks your order is set, finished, packed and shipped by yours truly. And when I don’t have my hands on it’s being cast down the street on Jeweler's row - which typically takes one of those three weeks to complete.

But if you don’t mind waiting, I’ll make anything you want. :)
